Introduction:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>What is the greatest and most important commandment?\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus was asked this question by the Pharisees who wished for nothing more than to find something to accuse Jesus of.\u00a0 <\/span>Our Savior responded with wisdom and authority.\u00a0 <\/span>The most important commandment is to love the Lord your God with all of your heart, all of your soul, and all of your mind.\u00a0 <\/span>By obeying this commandment and loving your neighbor, you have accomplished the spirit upon which all of the other commandments rest.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Today many people are seeking some kind of spirituality.\u00a0 <\/span>They wish to know and love God, but it is hard for some to figure out exactly how to love God.\u00a0 <\/span>One cannot see or touch God, how can one love Him?\u00a0 <\/span>The answer to that very practical question comes from our text.\u00a0 <\/span>One loves God with his heart, his soul, and his mind.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Truth is denied through political distraction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 22:15-22<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his<\/em> talk. 16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth,\u00a0 <\/span>neither carest thou for any man<\/em>: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye<\/em> hypocrites?<\/span> 19 Shew me the tribute money.<\/span> And they brought unto him a penny.\u00a0 <\/span>20 And he saith unto them, Whose is<\/em> this image and superscription?<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>21 They say unto him, Caesar\u2019s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar\u2019s; and unto God the things that are God\u2019s.<\/span> 22 When they had heard these words<\/em>, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>The enemies of truth tried to trap Jesus with political controversy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

B.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Jesus rose above the conflict.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

C.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Jesus focused on who He served, not on who He supported.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

D.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Although Christians should vote intelligently, it is the message of the Gospel and the service of the King that will change the world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ephesians 2:1-3<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And you hath he quickened<\/em>, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

II.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Truth is denied through finite reasoning.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 22:23-32<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.\u00a0 <\/span>27 And last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.<\/span> 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.<\/span> 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,<\/span> 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>The questions were asked from a position of unbelief, not from a desire to know.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

B.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>The questions were asked to bewilder and embarrass.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

C.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>When these questions are answered, the questioner must accept the truth or aggressively reject it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

III.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Truth is discovered in love for God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 22:36-40<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

36 Master, which is<\/span> the great commandment in the law? 37\u00a0 <\/span>Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.<\/span> 38 This is the first and great commandment.<\/span> 39 And the second is<\/span> like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.<\/span> 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Many claim to believe and love God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

B.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>These same people who tried to make a mockery of the Messiah, claimed to love God.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

C.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>They focused upon external rituals to salve their consciences<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

D.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Now they thought they would stump Jesus with a theological question about the greatest commandment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

E.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>It is all about love for God and love for your fellow man.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

F.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>If you pursue these, then everything else falls into place.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

IV.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Love God with your heart = inner man<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Guard your heart = keep and protect it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>More than any fleshly drive that resides in our carnal bodies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
