Green, <em>1500 Illustrations\nfor Biblical Preaching<\/em> (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 2000), 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we continue\nour series \u201cinside Out: The Pursuit of Genuine Christianity\u201d we are going to be\ntalking about a subject that often makes us feel a bit awkward and a bit uneasy.&nbsp; It is one, however, that is part of the very\nfabric of our culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1 Peter 2:11 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dearly beloved, I beseech <em>you<\/em> as strangers and\npilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;As Jesus builds on the truth that our\nrighteousness needs to exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and the\nPharisees, he moves to the area of adultery, lust and sexual immorality.&nbsp; This morning we will find that purity depends\nnot only on external behavioral compliance, but also on an internal surrender\nto the controlling boundaries of the will of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adultery Wars Against The Soul.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 5:27 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou\nshalt not commit adultery:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>moichos<\/em> (??????, 3432) denotes one \u201cwho has\nunlawful intercourse with the spouse of another<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Translation\nWheel)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hebrews 13:4 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marriage <em>is<\/em> honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:\nbut whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lust, the Secret Adultery, Wars Against the Soul<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 5:28 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust\nafter her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lust is the\ncraving for salt of a man who is dying of thirst.8161<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Lust wheel\nslide)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1&nbsp;Michael\nP. Green, <em>1500 Illustrations for Biblical Preaching<\/em> (Grand Rapids, MI:\nBaker Books, 2000), 229.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>epithumeo<\/em> (????????, 1937), \u201cto fix the desire\nupon\u201d (<em>epi<\/em>, \u201cupon,\u201d used intensively, <em>thumos<\/em>, \u201cpassion\u201d), whether\nthings good or bad; hence, \u201cto long for, lust after, covet,\u201d is used with the\nmeaning \u201cto covet evilly\u201d in Acts 20:33, of \u201ccoveting money and apparel\u201d; so in\nRom. 7:7; 13:9. Nelson, 1996),\n136.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Louw Nida\nSlide)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to note that this verse does\nnot just refer to noticing a woman as attractive, or even to a brief recognition\nthat she is sexually appealing. It refers instead to actually contemplating\nhaving sex with her, that is, to having the intention of doing so. Thus, for <em>looks\n\u2026 lustfully<\/em> translators can say \u201cwants to sleep with her,\u201d \u201cwants sex with\nher,\u201d or \u201clooks at her with the intention of sleeping with her.\u201d1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1&nbsp;Barclay\nMoon Newman and Philip C. Stine, <em>A Handbook on the Gospel of Matthew<\/em>,\nUBS Handbook Series (New York: United Bible Societies, 1992), 137\u2013138.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2 Timothy 2:22 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith,\ncharity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1 Peter 1:14 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to\nthe former lusts in your ignorance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus uses shocking speech to illustrate how dangerous this lust really is.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 5:29\u201330 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast <em>it<\/em>\nfrom thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish,\nand not <em>that<\/em> thy whole body should be cast into hell. <br>\n<br>\nAnd if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast <em>it<\/em> from thee:\nfor it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not <em>that<\/em>\nthy whole body should be cast into hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;Radio personality Paul Harvey tells\nthe story of how an Eskimo kills a wolf. The account is grisly, yet it offers\nfresh insight into the consuming, self-destructive nature of sin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First,\nthe Eskimo coats his knife blade with animal blood and allows it to freeze.\nThen he adds another layer of blood, and another, until the blade is completely\nconcealed by frozen blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Next,\nthe hunter fixes his knife in the ground with the blade up. When a wolf follows\nhis sensitive nose to the source of the scent and discovers the bait, he licks it,\ntasting the fresh frozen blood. He begins to lick faster, more and more\nvigorously, lapping the blade until the keen edge is bare. Feverishly now,\nharder and harder the wolf licks the blade in the arctic night. So great\nbecomes his craving for blood that the wolf does not notice the razor-sharp\nsting of the naked blade on his own tongue, nor does he recognize the instant\nat which his insatiable thirst is being satisfied by his \u201cown\u201d warm blood. His\ncarnivorous appetite just craves more\u2014until the dawn finds him dead in the\nsnow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It\nis a fearful thing that people can be \u201cconsumed by their own lusts.\u201d1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fornication, the End Product of Lust, Wars against the Soul and the\nMarriage.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Matthew 5:31\u201332 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him\ngive her a writing of divorcement: <br>\n<br>\nBut I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the\ncause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry\nher that is divorced committeth adultery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. <em>porneia<\/em> (???????, 4202) is used (a)\nof \u201cillicit sexual intercourse,\u201d in John 8:41; Acts 15:20, 29; 21:25; 1 Cor.\n5:1; 6:13, 18; 2 Cor. 12:21; Gal. 5:19; Eph. 5:3; Col. 3:5; 1 Thess. 4:3; Rev.\n2:21; 9:21; in the plural in 1 Cor. 7:2; in Matt. 5:32 and 19:9 it stands for, or\nincludes, adultery; it is distinguished from it in 15:19 and Mark 7:211<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1&nbsp;W. Nelson, 1996),\n252.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Fornication\nWheel)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;A study published in the <em>Journal\nof the National Cancer Institute<\/em> confirmed what God has always known.\nAdultery is bad for you. One of the many ways it harms people is by increasing\na woman\u2019s risk of cervical cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; According\nto the Associated Press, the study found that women are five to eleven times\nmore likely to develop cervical cancer if they or their husbands have numerous\nsexual partners. Cervical cancer is directly linked to HPV, a virus commonly\nspread by sexual intercourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cMale\nbehavior is the important thing in this cancer,\u201d said Dr. Keerti Shah, a\nprofessor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the coauthor of\nthe study. \u201cIn effect, the husband takes cancer home to his wife.\u201d Dr. Shah\nexplains that men who have many sexual partners are very likely to carry HPV\nhome and that up to 97 percent of cervical cancers are infected with that\nvirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In\nthe study group, wives whose husbands had twenty-one or more sexual partners\nwere eleven times more likely to develop cervical cancer. Wives whose husbands\nfrequented prostitutes were eight times more likely to develop cervical cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As\nalways, God commands what is moral because he is looking out for our welfare.\nNothing is more healthful than righteousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health,\nImmorality, Righteousness, Sex, Ten Commandments, Unfaithfulness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exod. 20:141<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1&nbsp;Craig\nBrian Larson, <em>750 Engaging Illustrations for Preachers, Teachers &amp;\nWriters<\/em> (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 2002), 14\u201315.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1 Corinthians 6:18\u201320 KJV<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flee fornication.
