I Will Build My Church<\/span><\/h3>\n

Introduction:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>There is a great deal of confusion out there about the Biblical definition of the church. Historically, there has been one denomination, established over 300 years after New Testament events, that claims to be the Church.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>It is commonly thought that this one denomination was the one started by Christ, and every other denomination is a break off from the One True Holy Universal, or Catholic Church.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>This morning we are going to study the word of our savior, Jesus Christ. We will discover that the church is not a denomination or sect, but rather a local organized assembly function. We will see that the local New Testament church is the body of Christ.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Church has one founder<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Jesus wanted to know who people said that He is.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 16:13-14<\/em><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?<\/span> 14 And they said, Some say that thou art<\/span> John the Baptist:\u00a0 <\/span>some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>This is the fundamental question that must be answered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Many men think that Jesus was a good teacher, but that will not save anyone.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

B.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Jesus wanted to know what the disciples thought.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 16:15-18<\/em><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?<\/span> 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it<\/span> unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.<\/span> 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it<\/span><\/em>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>This confession came as a spiritual awakening.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The conversation was about Jesus not Peter.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Peter = little stone<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Rock = foundation stone<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

C.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Church is not founded upon a sinful man<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that<\/span> the members should have the same care one for another.\u00a0 <\/span>26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Ekklesia= called out assembly<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them<\/span> about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles\u2019 doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

F.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The local church operated under the authority of Christ and that authority is recognized in Heaven and on earth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 16:19-20<\/em><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.<\/span> 20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

II.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Church has one main mission in the world<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Its mission is to support truth, not define it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Truth is found in the Word of God<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

John 17:17<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

2 Timothy 3:16<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

16 All scripture is<\/span> given by inspiration of God, and is<\/span> profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

2.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>The Church is a pillar of truth, not the foundation of truth<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

B.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Its mission is to reach the world with the truth of the Gospel<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Matthew 28:19-20<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:\u00a0 <\/span>20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even<\/span> unto the end of the world. 1.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Prepared as a bride<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ephesians 5:25-27<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. <\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
